AUCKLAND, Jan. 6. Destructive Fires. Sibbins* Anction Mart was completely gutted by fire this morning. A five- roomed house was burnt dawn at Onehunga yesternight. Insurances : — £250 on the house in the South British, and £100 on the furniture in the Standard Company. NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 6. James Henry was again brought up this morning charged with wounding W. Millett, at Opunake. He was c imruitted for trial at the next sitting of the Bupreme Court. WELLINGTON, Jan. 6. The steamer Wakatu, which arrived from Wanganui this morning, struck on Torris Hock, near Cape Terawbiti, at 7.30 a.m. The second mate was in charge of the vessel at the time. She is making water fast, and it is supposed that one of her plates is split. The pumps are kept hard at work, and after discharging she will go on to the Slip. A preliminary enquiry will be hold to-morrow. DDNEDIN, Jan. 6. At the Supreme Court to-day the following sentences were passed : — Jolm Gordon, for fraudulent bankruptcy, six months ; James Wilson, for larceny, two years ; John Dupre (a police constable) for stealing fowls, two years ; Frank Thomson, for robbery, three yearo. For the civil sittings here there are three common jury ca;ea set down, and seven for the special jury. These include the action for libel, Massey v. Allen, which cauio before the Court in October last as a criminal action. A seven-roomed boarding-house, in Cumberland street, was destroyed by fire early this morning. Tho placo belonged to the Bon Walter Mantell, and was occupied at tho time by a Mrs Crawford. Tho insurance upon ib was £100 in tho Northern Company.
