The Council meb afc 2.30 p.m. Beplying to the Hon G. M. Waterhouse, The Hon F. Whitak bk said Colonial Parliaments could not legislate ou the extradition of decamped husbands. A Bill for the purpose was now before fche Imperial Parliament, but was hardly likely to pass this session.

On the Hon J. T. Peacock's motion, a Select Committee was appointed to inquire why the Hillsborough Bailway btation was removed.

The Hon W. H. Bb_nolds moved that the members of the Council should bear some relative proportion to the number of representatives of the various districts of the Ooiony. After some debate the motion was rejected by 15 to 14. • For the motion— Hons Brett, G. Buckley, P. Buckley, Chamberlin, Fraser, G. Johnson, Lahmann, Menzies, Peacock, Reynolds, Scotland, Waterhouse, Wilson, Wood. Against — Hons Acland, Dignan, Hart, Henderson, Mantell, Martin, Miller, Nurse, Peter, Pharazyn, Pollen, Bobinson, Whitaker, Wigley, Williamson. The Hon F. Whitakbb moved the second reading of the Distress for Rent Abolition Bill.

There was a debate of BOiue length, the Hon G. M. Watebhoubb moving an amendment that the present law ahould be amended, but not abolished.

The motion that the Bill be read a second time " now," was rejected by 20 to 8, bufc Mr Waterhouse's amendment was then negatived by 15 to 10, and the question as to the Becond reading of the Bill will therefore come up a am to-morrow. At 5 p.m. the Council adjourned till 7.30 p.m.
