Intending excursionists for the West (Jcast Sounds are requested to Eend in their names to the Union Company's Offieo before 5 p.m. to-morrow. The si<nal staff yesterday bore quite an unusual appearance. Early in the morning two barquos were sighted frem the Heads, and two barque's flaga were hoisted at the south yard-arm. Some little time after a third was added, later on a fourth, and then a flag denoting the approach of a brigantine. The faac of lour barques being signalled at one time haa, wa believe, never ooourred before, and m»y not again for some time. Aa it was, the fUgstaff looked as though it wa3 dressed ftusa gala day, as, added to tho flags denoting the baiqueß, the numbers of three of them were flying at one time. The vessels proved to bo ihe Thurso, irom Calcutta; Planter, from Tasmania; City of Tanjore. from Calcutta j and West Biding, from Qlaßgow. Ihe wind was Ireali tiom tha BOtrth-^eM yesterday, and as the p.s. Lyttelton was away at Wellington the barques had to beat in. ( n reaohing the Heads the Weat Siding brought up, but the Thurso and C'.*y of Tanjore beau np to an anchorage. The p.s. Titan waa put into oommission, and towed the Thurso hi to a berth ; and in the afternoon the s.s. Akaroa went down the harbour in quest of a tow, and pioked up the Weat Biding-, bringing her up last evening.
