Ciihistchttbcii West ScnooL3. — Last evening an entertainment was given in the Ohristchurch Weat schoolroom, in aid of the prize fund. As on former occasions, thero was a crowded attendance, and the onlj fault to be found with the programme was that it was too long, some of the items having to be omitted. Beyond all doubt the gems of the evening were the part songs, &c, contributed by the children themselves. It. wa9 evident that great care had been bestowed upon their training, the attontion to light and shade being remarkable. Amongst the ladies and gentlemen who kindly gave their services were tho members of Mr Merton's glee class, the Hisses Ness, Bimpson, Edgar and Robinson, and Messrs Thornton, Joseph, Black, M'Oonnell, Craig, M'Cardell and Johnston. The head master of the schools, the Rev J. Cumming, may fairly bo congratulated upon the thorough success which has attended the annual entertainment.
