ROAD ROARDS.
RICOARTON.
The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Monday, at the office, Upper Riccarton; present — Messrs Hall (chairman), Pattereon, Boag, and Nunwcek. — Mr Nunweek apologised for Mr Stanley, who was absent through illness — The following correspondence was read :— From Messrs Harman and Stevens,, enclosing tracing of road laid out on the Ham estate, and asking upon what terms the Board would accept it. It was resolved to reply — " That, on the road referred to being dedicated to the public, and formed to the Board's satisfaction, free of cost, it will be accepted." — From MessH Packe Brothers, stating the terms upon which Mr Acland would allow the ditch to be filled up, fronting his land on the Fendaltown road. The Board having considered the matter, it was decided, before taking any further action, to ask all the other owners of land fronting the road if they would convey, bo that a footpath may be made. — From Mr T. S. Duncan (in reply) offering to prepare conveyances to the Crown, but stating that the Crown doeß nob bear any of the costs. — From a ratepayer, calling attention to the nu'sance arising from Mr Horler's bonecrushing establishment at Upper Riccarton. The Board decided to defer the consideration of the question until their next meeting, and the Surveyor was directed to examine the locality, and report on the alleged nuisance. —From Mr Pope, enclosing a copy of his lease, and complaining that the Clerk had not put his name on the rate roll ; also, that the ditch fronting Mr John Carleton's land was foul. The Board having examined the documents, decided that the roll was prepared according to the Rating Act, and that no blame was attached to the Clerk — Mr Joseph Taylor waited on the Board, and requested on behalf of tho ratepayers in his neighbourhood, that a footpath be made along Blackett's road to join that recently made on Bligh's road. The Board promised to consider Mr Taylor's application, and with this view the Surveyor was directed to examine and report on the cost, &c, of tho required footpath. — As directed at last meeting, the Surveyor reported on the cost, &c, of forming the road ojn $?£- --tion 9 at thejntrance t&th7flfft e - ten( j e f a f or ' flffe'lroff, returnable at next meeting. — The consideration of the widening of the stone culvert on the park, near Mr Washbourne's, was further deferred for three months.— The Surveyor's report was read, and the following resolutions were carried : — "That the ford at Webb's bridge, on tho Fendalton and Wairarapa Junction road, be made passable for stack ; that the bridge over the cutting at the entrance to the Crewe township be strengthened with extra girders, and hand-rails erected; that the road into the gravel-pit by W. Allnutt's (about three chains) be formed; that Captein Bell's application for a few loadß of gravel from the river-bed reserve be granted ; that the wheel-ruts on tho Sawyer's Arms road and Gardener's road be raked in ; that the annual meeting for the election of three members to serve on the Board in place of Messrs Stanley, Nunweek and Boag, who retire by rotation, be held on Friday, January 7 next, at noon." — After passing accounts, the Board adjourned until Friday, Dec. 31, at 6 o'clock.
