ASSOCIATION y. PAST AND PBESENT OF CHBIBT'3 COLLEGE. [By Spikks.] This match was continued and finished on Saturday, with the result of a one innings defeat for the Collegians, whose batting in the second innings was anything but up to the mark. As may be remembered, they had lost 8 wicketß for 63 runs in their first attempt, which ended with the score at 98. Mr Cotterill carried his bat for 54. He began and ended his career with a hit for 5 ; bufc his play on the second day was marked by a most unusual amount of caution. Tiie only other doublo figure was Mr Chapman's 13, but this though including one good drive, wa3 not a Tory grand display. "With 85 runs to obtain to save a one ii.nings defeat, the Collegians again went in, but though the bowling of their ad versa; ies was anything but formidable, they failed to obtain this very moderate quantity. Mr Ollivier made some fine bits, and set his men a good example, which, with the exception of Mr Hugh Mathias, who was run out when well set, they altogether failed to imitate. Mr Hartland seemed nervous and finally played on, and Mr Beeves was bowled by an absurdly longhop, which ho seemed desirous of pulling to leg. Mr Helmore made two good hits, and Mr Chapman shaped belter this time, but the ninth wicket feil at 82, and, ai Mr Beswick wa9 absent, the game then ended as above stated. During the match Mr Frith took thirteen wickets for 79 runs, but on the second day he returned to iiis old habit of bowling slowly, and though a wet wicket and the feeble play of the batsmen saved him from much punishmont, it is to bo hoped that he will not continue doing so, for it rover fails to take all the goodness out of his deliveries.
