SYDENHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tho Sydcnham Borough Council held their usual fortnightly meeting last evening, at half past 7 o'clock ; present — tho Mayor, Councillors Pavitt, Andrew, Charters, Joyce, W. While, Hall, Nicholl. A letter was read from tho Reluming Oflicer, stating that Mr J. T. Brown had been duly elected as Mayor of tho Borough of Sydctibaui. Thfi Work* Committee reported : — " Your C'ommittdo beg to report that Messrs Dobson and Son Imvo completed tl;e pluus for the construction of the Houth town belt, and tho same have been forwarded to tho City Council for tha approval of tho City Surveyor. Wo had a meeting ou Nov. 25 with tho Works Committe.) of t,ho Heutheolo Road Board, and agreed with them upon the levels to which tho tramway line should bo laid, and to tho work of loiverisig tho road being done by contract, at tho joint ex'-ense of tho Bourd and this Council, and under tho supervision of tho Council. Wo havo accepted tho offer of Mr Dunbar to supply dog collars for the ensuing year, at. tho same rates as his contract with the City Cjuncil. Tho labour gang havo finished the formation of Mr Hivrmaa'e privato streo's, aud are now engaged in lowering tho Windmill road and

forming a footpath thereon. Mr Brightling has done the most part of the work of loworing Wilson's road, and as he some time ago stated his wiUingntss to lower tho approach to the -bridge on the Gasworks road on tha same terms, viz, gratuitously, we recommend that he be given permission to do so, notwithstanding some of tho owners of land abutting on the road have declined to sign a letter agreeing to tho lowering." On the motion of Councillor White, the report was received and adopted on division, Councillor Joyce being tho only one who voted in the negative. FINANCE COHHITTBE'rt BEPOET. " During the last fortnight the receipts and expenditure of the Council have been as follows—Receipts, £411 14 3 3d; accounts passed for payment, £109 2s 3d; credit balance at Bank this day, £1239 19a Id. " The Finance Committee has obtained the solicitor's opinion respecting the Council's claim to a share of tbe land fund recently received by tho Heat.hcole Road Board. The opinion will be laid !>? tore you this evening." The letter referred to was from Hews Garrick and Cowlfchaw, 6tating that Mr FifeGerald's award in the distribution of properties, &c, between the Heathcoto Hoad Board and the Sydenhitm. Borough Council, was final. On the motion of Councillor Charters, the report was received and adopted. It was rsaclved that all owners whose tenants had not paid their rates be summoned within the next fortnight*. SYDKNHAK PO3T-OFPICB. Councillor Joj cc moved—" That a letter be sent to the Chief Postmaster, askicg when tho Sydenham Post-office will be opened for public business." Councillor Nicholl seconded the motion, which was agreed to unanimeusly. TBLEGBAPHIC CHABGBS. Councillor Joyce moved—" That a letter be directed to be sent to Mr Meddings, Inspector of Telegraphs, asking him if he was aware that an extra charge of 1b was made on all telegrams delivered in Bydenham." Councillor Charters seconded the motion, which was agreed to. The Council then adjourned.
