SOUTHBRIDGE CONCERT.
On Thursday evening the Southbridge School Committee gave a Juvenile Concert, in the To^n Hall, for the purpose of augmenting the school funds. The school children were, with the exception of Mr Lucas and Miss Edwards, the master and mistress of tho school, tho only performers, and doubtless o>niig to this attraction the hall was densely packed in all parts. A wellbalanced chorus of admirably-trained little girls and boys, with bright and happy faces, occupied an impromptu gallery raieed upon the stage, and with great precision and vervo supported the soloists. Where all did so well it would bo invidious to make special reference fo any of the youthful performors j it is sufficient to say that all present were highly delighted at the talent displayed, and the general excellence of tho entertainment provided. Tho programme contained about 30 items, including — gleee, duets, and solos, all of which reflected the greatf eI credit on the master, Mr Lucas, who has been for some time past most energetic in his endeavours to train tho children. A repetition of tho concert is generally demanded by the people of the district, and no doubt if this is complied with a still greater audience will assemble. We are informed that tho Bchool Committee were very successful in their purpose, the proceeds amounting to about £20. At the conclusion of the concert three cheers were cilled for Mr Lucas, and heartily responded to.
