A Contradiction.— Some friends of Mr H. Middletou, proprietor of the Club Hotel, Waimate, in their anxiety to do him a service, have represented the Hotel as being fitted up with every convenience for private families. Had they stopped at this truth there would have been no ground for complaint ; instead of doing so, however, it has been erroneously put forward that Mr Middleton does not wish for the patronage of commercial travellers, and as this wrong impression lias been only too successfully circulated amongst the claps o£ gentlemen referred to, we have pleasure in stating that Mr Middleton has provided a private part of the house for tho special accommodation of eammercial travellers, who wiil always bo heartily welcomed by him. It is the intention of the contractor, Mr Martin, instead of driving the pipes in the usual way, to force down the plug at the bottom for an inch, and then drive the pipe down on to it ; and to repeat this operation till the stratum of conglomerate iB passed.
