1. Councillor Ayers was never Chairman of the Tramway Committee of the City Council, and is not in any way responsible for the line going through the cabstand at the station. We underBtand that he was not even a member of that Committee. 2. Councillor Ayerß waß nob Chairman of the By-laws Committee. For two years he has been a member of that Committee, and the minutes of their proceedings will show the amount of attention he has given to the business. 3. Councillor Ayers has never been Chairman of the Water Supply Committee, and therefore he could not have resigned as asserted. 4. We cannot speak as to Councillor Ayerß retiring from the Council Chamber when an unpopular question came upon the tapis. We refer our correspondent to some one of the Councillors.
5. Councillor Ajers has nover been Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Ciiy Council, and therefore could not have issued the instructions charged against him. We are surprised at our correspondent notioing suoh palpable stuff. Did not these truthful allegations issue from the Press office?— Ed Star."]
