SOCIETIES.
L.O.L.— The Courtenay True Blue, L.O.L , hf;id their usual monthly meeting in the Orange Hall on August 31. There was a good attendance of members. lh*ee candidates were proposed for initiation, after which the election of officers was proceeded with. U.A.O.D. — The ordinary meeting of the Etheibert Lodge waa held on Monday evening lastin the Lodge-room, Springston Hotel j Bro G. H. Cattrall, A.D., in the chair. After the usual routine business the Lodge adjourned for harmony, after which a Lodge of Instruction waß held for the special benefit of the visiting Brothers of the Star of Anglesea Lodge. Bro D. Brown, V.A., returned thanks on behalf of the visiting Brothers for the kindness shown them, and the Lodge was then closed in due form. Breach of Fbiendly Societibs Act. — An information has been kid under the Friendly Societies Act, ogainat Mr J. S. Willcox, secretary of the Court Queen of the Isles, A.0.F., for neglecting to send to tne Eegistrar an annual return showing tho receipts, expenditure, and general status of the society. The case, which we understand is the first of the kind brought up in New Zealand, will be heard at the Besident Magistrate's Court, Lyttelton, on Friday. Mr H. N. Nalder has been retained for the defence.
