James Hill, late Hospital Steward, was ■charged this morning with having fraudlently embezzled certain articles the property df the Hew Zealand Government, on or about the 19tji November last. From fiie -evidence of the principle witness, it appears that a draper supplied blankets, table linen, &c, to the late Steward, who substituted c fictitious voucher for the goods, and for which the Government pud. The prisoner was committed for trial at the next sittings of the -Supreme Court. Native Opposition. . The" Natives are still showing a tacit oppo> sition to the road parties to the south of the Stoney Eiver. They have erected several fences acroas the line of the road at Ifgakumikumi, and the constabulary have in •very instance pulled the fences down, only, lowever, to fini them re-erected by the Natives on the following day.
