A Different Kind of Thing from Ours.
In the Legislative Assembly the Colonial Treasurer has introduced his financial statement. He said that in consequence of Parliament approving ■ only part of the proposals in his laßt budget, and" largely in consequence of the decrease in the revenue from land sales, instead of the surplus then expected, . there was a der.fioit of £440,000. The deficit is to be covered by an increase of taxes —on the export of wool, greasy |d, washed ■s and scoured ;on horses and cattle exported, 6d per head royalty; and 6d per • ton on the output of coal. It was also , intended to re-introduce the Stamp Bill as amended and in accord with the -Council. The Treasurer estimates the revenue for the remainder of the year v at £3,140,000, and the expenditure at ,£2,800,000, and for next year he .estimates the revenue at £5,230,000.
