SPORTS COMMITTEE.

■» A meeting of the Sports Committee was held at four o'clock yesterday afternoon at the City Council Chamber; present — His Worship tho Mayo* (in the chair), Mcsara King, Alport, S. P. Andrews, John Ollivier, Hebden, Mitchell, R. C. Bishop, Hulbert, Pratt, F. Pavitt, Walkden, C. E. Briggs, F. Hobbs, Lambert, Crooks. J he Mayor said that Mr Ollivier had made arrangements to stay in Christchurch on tho day of tho sports. (Cheers.) Tho Mayor added that he had received a letter from Mr Seager, acknowledging the receipt of £5. Mr Ollivier created considerable amusement by pointing out than Mr Harman had been included in a Hit of booth-holders. A letter was read from Mr J. E. March, as Secretary of the Cbaritablo Aid Board, acknowledging tho receipt of cheque of £5 each in aid of the Christchurch Hospital, Orphan Asylum, Ashburton Home and Burnham Industrial School. In compliance wiih the unanimous wish of the Committee, Mr S. P. Andrews agreed to accept his old position of starter, and Mr Hebden agreed to act aa oue of the judges. Mr Mitchell mentioned that if the Government granted free pusso-i to Dunedin for tho BaLtalion Band, that b;dy might not bo in attendance on Now Year's Day. Mr Crooks was happy to slate that. 1.0 had been in communication wiih the Battalion Band, and that tho members would perform as previously arranged. Several matters of detail wero settled by the Committee, such as the arrangeirent for distributing prize-tickets, attendauce afc the grand stand, &c Tho admission of vehicles was left ia tho hands of tho Ground Committee. Mr Mitchell inquired if the handicapping would in any way be interfered with by the postponement, and tho p*obable absence of some of tho competitors. Mr Hebden replied in the negative. The relativo position of actual competitors would remain tho same. Some conversation ensued relative to the special sports for ohildren, and the proposed distribution of toys, the suggcstioLß mado by Mr Crooks being approved. Ifc was arranged that the Committee should again meet on Friday, Jan. 16.
