DURHAM STREET WESLEYAN CHURCH.

■ * — r— The quarterly meeting ofthe office-bearers of the Durham street Wesleyan Church was held in the vestry last evening. The Rev A. Reid occupied the ohair, and there was a good attendance. The number of Church members was reported as 238. The Sunday School returns showed the number of teachers in the circuit to be 79, and the number of scholars 879, with an average attendance of 561. These returns gave rise to a considerable discussion, in which several of tho members took part. The financial returns for the quarter showed an income of £180 6* sd, and an expenditure of £904 5s 3d, leaving a debit balance of £23 13s lOd. Ib was stated tbat the Circuit Stewards saw their way clear to meet this deficiency during the coming quarter. Messrs 0. W. Turner and E. Connal »wero elected the lay representatives of the circuit at the Conference to bo held in Dunedin in January next. Ths Chairman stated \that Messrs J. Ballantyne and W. Harris Were members ex-offioio. The Oommittee appointed to consider the advisability of adopting an improved system of Church Finance brought up an interim report and were requested to complete the same and •bring it before a meeting of the congregation to be held aftor Conference. A discussion. on the advisability of erecting a new church at I the East Belt was engaged in, and the matter was referred to the Trustees. The benediction pronounced by the Chairman, brought the meeting to a close.
