HEATHCOTE RACES.
1 Judge, Mr Pnvitt; Handicapper, Mr Duni bar ; Treasurer, Mr Bainford ; Starter, Mr 1 lUvies ; Clerk of Course, Mr Butcher ; Clerk of Scules, Mr Barrett. 1 Tho first of what .are intended to be annual 1 races at Heathcote took place yesterday in a '. paddock near the Heathcote Arms, Woolston, ; where thero waa a very largo attendance of ' the public. The course wa3 about three- ' quarters of a mile round, and was in tolerably ' fair condition. The following were the ' events of the day :— Distkict HmiDiiE Hack, \\ mile?, over six 1 Uights of hurdles. First borße, £10 ; second to Bavo his stake. Post entry ; weight not less thnn lOat. Mr O'Neil's eh ni Barmaid 1 i Mr Pifer's br M Venture ... 2 There were four entries for the race, but i the winner led from the starting post, and i paseed the judge 200 yards ahead of Venture. 1 District Handicap Trotting Bacb, 3 miles.- First prize, £8 ; second horfe, one riding bridle, given by W. White. Weight 1 not less than lOet ; post entry. i Mr Kirkwood'a Titokowaru, scratch 1 1 Messrs Bufcohor and Keith's Kathleen, 260yd5 ... 2 Mr Johu Kerr'B Punch, 130jda •. 3 There were nine entries for this race, which was well contested, the winner landing two lengths in front of Kathleen. Hbathcotb Handicap Cup, £15 ; second horse to cave his Btake. Open to ull comers. Distance, 2 miles. . Mr HaYs Alice Gray, lOat 1 Mr J. Coates' Council, 93t 8)b 2 1 Five started. The first round showed the horaes very evenly matched \ but during the " second, two of them dropped out, and a third ' fouled a post. Tho dinner passed tho post a 1 neck a-head of Council. : District Flat Bacb. First horse, £10; 1 second to Bave his stake. Distance, 1 mile. Mr H. Piper' Ventura 1 . Msssrsßjtchor and Keith's Tongariro 2 [ For this raco 6cven entered. Venture went i to the front at the start, was never collared, and won by a couplo of lengths. , Disthict Hack Rack First horso, £5 ; catch weight?. Distance, J-mile. Mr H. Piper's Sit-me-down 1 Messrs Butcher aud Keith's Dick 2 Five ran. Dick took the lead at once, and I looked like winning till near tho finish, when Sit-mc-down came up and was skilfu'ly [ piloted past the post, winning by a length. i The meeting concluded with the I CONSOLATION IIACE. i For this race llireo entered. It was won , by Mr Oaborno's Whalebone.
