UNIVERSITIES AND PUBLIC SCHOOLS v. WORLD.
Another run-getting match wag commenced yesterday, and will bo continued to-day. The World went first to tho wickets, and, thanks to the weakness of the bowling opposed to them, and the bad fielding of thoir adversaries, put together the big total of 461. The first wicket to fall was that of J. Fowler, and this usually dangerous batsman was sent back to tho pavilion with tho small score of 3. Ashby then went in, and played a grand, freo hitting inning*, being caught at point when ho had run up 112. fle displayed good cricket, and gave so chancea until the ball before ho was finally caught. This ho hit into Longdeu's hands at point, but the fieldsman dropped it. Tho batsman was not so lucky next time, and Longdon held an easy one. Ashby's score included one 5 and pleven 4'a. Alpo Bcored more freely than usual, and got within 3 of the coveted century. Fowke did not add much, but Watson hit hard, and ran up 85 in a very short time. Skelton was not successful with tho bat, but both Turner and Allen kept tho field alive, ns their scores of 66 and 43 indicate.
