Today's ftito, inaugurated by the Amalgamated Friendly Sociotieß, tho Oddfellows (Manchester Unity), Foresters and Druids, has proved to be a very marked success. One of the most pleasing featuroß in connection willi the proceeding of this morning was the marked cordiality evinced, tho r rvisiting brethren being met at the railway itation ; and escorted with fitting corembny to the various Lodge-rooms. Tho procession was in every sense of the word a marked a access, and was strikingly effective, its arrangement reflecting great credit upon tho Marshals, Mess's Sladc, Watt, and Openheim. At the head was tho Third Battalion ' Band, and next came the tnembors of tho rccoritly-formed Court of Juvenile Foresters. Then there was , a long line,! which included an effioient reprerentation of the various Courts mentioned ia tho following programme :— Battalion Band Togo Dubilino or Ancient Druids Oak of Sydenhain Lodge of Druids Mistletoe Christchurch Lodge of Druids llopo of St. Alban's Lodge of Druids Pioneer Christchuroh Lodgo of Druids Phillipstown Lodgo of Oddfellows Star of Waltham Lodgo of Oddfellows Perseverance (Woolslon) Lodge of Oddfellows Benevolent Christchurch Lodgo Oddfellows Yoluntcer Christchurch Lodgo Oddfellows City of Ohristchurch Lodgo Oddfellows Lyttelton (Lyttcltou) Lodgo Oddfellows Kaiapoi, BangiorA, and other country lodges. On arriving at the grounds of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association, some exceedingly picturesque groups wero formed, particularly by the Druids, -whose white robes and long flowing beards produced a singularly good effect. The National Anthem was sung, and some photographic pictures were obtained by Mr Wheeler. Within Mr Procter^ camera obseura, which had been placed on the ground, pictures were to be seen whioh, for richness of colouring and vivid interest, could hardly bo surpassed. The various •. amusements wero quiokly in full swing, and the goneral appearance of the grounds was a thoroughly pleasing ono. Tho clouded Bky tempered tho heat of tho weather, bo that in ■ all respects the occasion was an enjoyable ; one. The programmo of sports was commenced with commendable punctuality, the various events being as follows : — Bots' Race, under 16, 410 yds; open to all comers. The latter gained on the remainder of the Sold very rapidly, as much as 20 yards in a lap. The whole of tho competitors, however, allowed good honest work. "Whon half tHe distance had been covered, Bowley had picked up about 100 yards, but he wbb not displaying quite the form shown by him in former years. Page and Pierce had quite an exciting struggle during the oighth lap, the former eventually succeeding in passing hie opponent, FogO was going very strongly, his style eliciting frequent applause, Wilson walked extremely well from tho commencement, holding his relative position fur belter thim lind been anticipated; he showed himself to be a splendid little walker, and his victory was a very popular ono.
