Mails close at the Chief Post Offico for the foilowing plaoes (subject to tho necessary alterations) as under— Wednesday, Tec. 24. For Northern Ports, per Uotomahans, at 1 50 p.m. ; late fee letters, 2,10 p.m. ; guard's van, 2.40 p.m. train. For Kaikoura, per Jane Douglas, at 3 p.m. ; lato fee letters, 3.15 p.m. ; guard's van, 4 p.m. train. Thursday, Dec. 25. For Australian Colonies, per express train to tbe Blnll (to connect with ss. Arawata) at 7.30 a.m. Tho noxt ninil for tho United Kingdom via San Fraucieco will be closed at Chrißtchurch on Jan. 3, at 5 p.m., aud. will bo due in London on Feb. 17, 1880. The next mail for the United Kingdom, via Brindisi, will bo closed at Christohurch on Jau. 16, and will be due in London on March 4. Notick.— Thursday, Dec. 25, being a Post-office holiday, all branches of the dopartmont will be closed on that day. Mails usually closed on Thursday will be despatched on Friday, Dec. 2C.
