ANNUAL SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS.

fc CONVENT SELEOT SCHOO_... Several of the lady friends 'and re-J-tives of :.he pupils of the "Sacred Heart "' Select School, assembled at the Convent yesterday afternoon, to witnoss the exhibition of tho children's work, and distribution of prizes, or rather of tho carda. wliich will entitle each of their recipients to. a prize when ihe vessel in which the prizes have been shipped from England shall have arrived. The exhibits, which were tastefully arranged in ono of the schoolrooms, relloctod tho highest possible credit ripon the young ladies themselves, as also upon tho ladies whoso careful and painstaking labour has enabled th.e_r pupils to attain to so high a standard of excellence. Tho articlos of wool and fancy work displayed tho most beautiful finish, and where all wero so good, it would be invidici-is to particularise. Of tho drawings in crayon, however, special mention j must b» made, particulorly thoso which have been executed by Miss Webb, who in some of her subjects has been remarkably successful. On tho wall was a largo picture of our Saviour disputing with tho doctors in the Temple, beautifully worked iv wool. This was tho work of the orphans, assisted by Miss Sterling. The map drawings of tho children, which wero arranged round tho wall, wero noat, and executed with great care, tho freedom from tho daubing so frequently witnessed in tho coloured maps of school children being especially noticeable, and this may be said of the work in tho oxorciso books which contained the examination papers, neatness in a remarkable degree and good clear handwriting. Haviug inspected the various articles exhibited, the visitors adjourned to tho room in which the prizo cards were to bo distributed. Thero wero present the Lord Bishop of Wellington, the Bey Fathers Ginaty, Devoy, Grunholz andChervier. Boforo the distribution tho usual entertainment was given, the young ladies goltirg through thoir music and recitations vory successfully. After tho distribution His Lordship addressed a few kind words to tho childron, congratulating them upon their attainments, and expressed his happiness at tho good account ho had heard of them all from tho Bey Mother. He hoped that next year, instead of tho small room in which they were compelled now to receive their prices, they would have a suitable school and one worthy of tbo parish and of themselves. Ho counstlled them to bo good children at home, and to do thoir utmost to reward by thoir good conduct tho parents who were giving them so good an education, and finally, announced his intention of being pr.sont this evoning, when a Dramatic Entertainmont will bo givon boforo breaking-up for tho holidays.
