CRUELTY TO AFIMALS.
TO THH KDITOK OV TUB STAB. Sin,--I was porfoctly horrifiod in walking through tho Btrcots of Ohristohuroh laat Christmas ore, to sco exposed for sale on the fish barrows a largo number of fowls closely tied and oipo.od to a scorching sun. Some I notiood triod in vain to rise, and appeared almost ready to expire, without the aid of tho men wlio stood plucking their mates before thoir eyes. I can fanoy no greater punishment for tlio worst criminal, than to remain in a cramped position soveml hours with noither food nor water beneath a burning auu. Is thoro no way of preventing the repetition of suoh abominable cruelty during th. coming Christmas P If the animals must br exposed, for sale alivo, then surely the/ might be onclosed in a fort of cage, «o a* to secure that their limbs would be free, and some food and a littlo wator might be given them. By inthis, or taking uu the aubjeot you will
serting greatly obligo all who wish to prevent cruelty inthor thau punish the guilty for tho of-cuoo. . WATCHMAN.
