Th 6 trial of the bushrangers commenced on fj).ee, 3. r'A large body of police was required to prevent the crowd from rushing tbe courthouse. Mr Want, who appeared for tho prisoners, applied for a postponement of the trial until the public excitement had abated, and made special reference to the comments published by the Metropolitan Press, also to the illustrations representing all the prisoners as firing, part of the defence being that only the two deceased and another fired. Particular exception was taken to the sensation article purporting to give an account of the interview with the prisoners in the gaol which was published in tbe Evening News, the reporter pf which journal gained access to the prisoners by representing that he was prepared to give important testimony in their favour. The .Judge (Mr Wind'eyer) temporari'y adjourned itho Court in order to afford him an opportunity of perusing an extract from the journals complained of. . Captain Moonlight told a visitor who called at Darlinghrrst gaol that; since his confinement he had held spiritualistio- communication with the deceased Nesbitt.
