ANNIVERSARY PYROTEOHNIO DISPLAY.
* -. In the anniversary celebrations of former years the display made by the members of our Volunteer Fire Brigade has always been the moat popular item of the day's proceedings, and along the whole line of the route taken by the torchlight procession there have been immense crowds of spectators. Ihis year there is to be no torchlight procession, but the omission of so important an item is being abundantly compensated for by tho provision which is beiEg inado for a magnificent display of fireworks. Some time ago the Brigade determined upon setting apart a very handsome amount, put of the gratuities which from time to time thoy have received in recognition of their services, to be expended in tho purchase of fireworks of tbo very best kind procurable. Their order was forwarded to London, and the cases were recently landed here, the contents being in admirablo condition. The Committee of Management, aided by Councillor ChemU, havo arranged an elaborate programme, and their plan for the display will be understood by a study of the subjoined diagram and programme : — ••■■■■ A C B B 0 D E f . a H H [Platform.! Tho comfort of tho public is not boing forgotten, Superintendent Harris having arranged for two lines of largo torches to be placed from tho footbridge to the centre of the ground, the lights being elevated on poles so as to form a brilliantly illuminated avenue, along which the spectators may pass safely and eauily. This provision, together with the widening of the footbridge, will bo fully appreciated. The members of tho Brigade do not propose to canvas for subscriptions, but a few membors will be stationed at tho footbridge to receive any voluntary contributions which tho spectators may be disposed to make. Should mattorß pass off with the smoothness which is hoped for, the display provided will be a brilliant one, and no doubt the public will show their appreciation of tho efforts of the Brigade by contributing liberally.
