The Board wont into Committee to consider two applications received .for the post of House Surgeon at tho Hospital. On resuming, the Chairman reported that Mr Maurice Alfred Chiltonhad been appointed to the vacancy. This appointment had been recommended by-fche Hospital Staff. A letter was read from Dr Symes, asking to bo admitted a member of tho Hospital Staff to the vacancy on the surgical side. The medical staff had written recommending this appointment. Mr Brown said this application raised the whole question of tho medical staff. It was his opinion that tho Board, when managing a public institution, should allow all duly qualified medical men in practice here to visit the Hospital. Mr Montgomery did not think it would bo convenient to havo all tho medical men in tho town on the Hospital Staff, though tho question of changes at intervals might bo considered. Ho would move—" That the application bo acceded to," and, if thought necessary other step3 could bo taken at another time. Mr Booth socondod tho granting of tho application. Mr Brown moved as an amendment— 'That all duly qualified medical mjn rosiding in Christchurch bo placed on tho roster of the Christchurch Hospital.' The amendment was not sacondod, and fell through. The resolution was put and earned, but it. was understood that tho whole question of the Hospital staff would bo considered on a future occasion."
