THE SPECTRESCOPE.
The interesting and pleasant entertainment under this title drew a good hou3O at the Oddfellows' HaU on Saturday evening. There was a partial chaDge of programme, " Faust and Marguerite " being introduced in the form of an "illuaionary legend." In this, several scenes from the well-known play were given with good effect. The vision of Marguerite in a dungeon and the suddon transformation of the scene to the cathedral in Heidelberg with Marguerite djing at the altar, were exceedingly pretty.' The last scene was the most interesting of any, " Marguerite borne through the clouds, supported by angels." In thi3 vision Marguerite appeared ia mid-air, reclining on the arms of "seraphß," and the whole presented a very pleasing picture, the figures moving naturally, and appearing to he perfectly real. "A Groat Mystery Unravelled" was an item in the programme which created much amusement. It was the transformation of sausages into their natural element. An empty basket stood upon a chair at the back of the stage, and into this some sausages (of the stage property description) were placed. The light is gently turned down, but the chair and basket remain distinctly visible to the audience. The light, after the lapse of a few seconds, is again turned up, and the natural element of the sausages— a dog— appears in tho basket. In a similar manner marmalade jam was metamorphosed into oranges. The rest of tli6 performance was a repetition of what had been given on previous evenings.
