NAPIEB, Oct. 9. Apologies. Tfre' libel action ra_Bed by Major Mair and Mr Searaucke, against the Hawke' t Bay Herald have been amicably settled, through Measra Bullor and Lewis, tho plaintiffs, solicitors. The Herald publishes a full retraction and apology, and -pays £50 into Court, and all costs in each case. The fleraW iho extends the apology to Major Jackson. The Telegraph has, in a similar manner stopped tho libel action raised against it by Mr Rees, by apologising and paying £100 to the Hospital, and coata. Agricultural Show. The ahow of tho Hawkes' Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society yesterday and to-day was a great success. Archibald M'Lean and Lvona carried off the chief honours in merinos, which were well represented, and Mr Tarinet, Messrs Farmer, and Watt, and Mr M'Hardy in Linoolna. 0£ draught entires thore was a large show, Mr Hislop carrying off both champion prizes with Robin Adair and Kato. Mr Allan M'Leau appropriated the champion cup for thoroughbreds with Patriarch and Javelin. Oattle were not very numerous, but some magnificent bea.ta were shown in the shorthorn clasa. Mir M'Hu-dy's Prince Loonard took tho champion cup for bull., aud hia two animala aho took first pi izes for young bulls. Of agricultural implements thero waß a good Bhow. Mr Jones, of Waipukurau, carrying off the champion prize for the beat collection. They wero all made at his foundry, and had to compete with first-claaa imported implements, but his ploughs, harrows, Ac, were considered better suited to the requirements of the Colony. Shearing. ia now progreeaing rapidly, tho weathor being favourablo after a spell of cold and froat.
