CORRESPONDENCE

» — "ONE OF THE WORKING CLASS" IN REPLY.

TO THB BDITOB OF THB STAB. Sib,— Since my letters appeared in the Star I have been in a good many portions of this city, and have heard a lot of people tpeaking about them, hut I must say I never once heard Mr J. W. Tread well's name associated with them even in a whisper ; but if thoro are any who have done bo, then I consider thoy paid me but a very sorry complement indeed. Even, sir, if in your kindness you permitted me, I should decline to waste your space by discussing the Land laws, or any other laws with Mr Tteadwell. To do bo would simply be to pander to the man's vanity, and that's not quite good enough, It will, however, be interesting information for those who have had the patience to wade through Mr Treadwell's productions whioh have appeared from time to time, to learn that he would cut off his right hand " before it should wilfully belie any man." Mr Tresd^ell Bays his "words are always like the Soman sword, Bhort, sharp, two-edged and pointed." I certainly should not have tisieught bo, -and have invariably.heard them spoken of as possessing a sofcewbat diilorent quality. ■..:.■•■. :. The fact is, air, the " logical analysis " of the whole thing proves to me — working man man as I am— that Mr Tread well is far too small potatoes to trouble about. ■: ~. ■ From a hurried glance at the Press this morning I see that " Old Identity," who considers me a chicken- (bless his old gums), thinks I have slandered -Mr Hall, and to " Old Identity " (his fourth disguise) I sbaj^ say a lew. words to-morrow evening. I I am, &c, L ONE OE THE WORKING OLA?. B.
