GENTLEMEN,— I am again a candidate for your suffrages. You know that I am a man of few words, and will not expect from me a long address. Many of you know that I did not seek oflico, but entered unwillingly into tho Ministry to ensure that tho interests of the Canterbury Provincial District should not be altogether unrepresented. The policy of the present Ministry has been so fully set forth in the Governor's speech at the opening of Parliament, that it is unnecessary for me to refer to that policy in detail. It will be sufficient to say that I am determined, if re-elected, to do my utmost to give effect to that policy— fully assured that fair taxation, liberal land laws, and shorter Parliaments are essential to the progress and proßpority of the Colony. I will have an opportunity during the election of personally discussing these matters with you, and ulso of conferring with you upon all local matters which you may desire to bring before me.
