Mr Holder upon August 18 took possession ot the Lambton Colliery. Mr Browne, an anti-vendor, was pelted and hooted by the mob. He fired five shots from a revolver into the mob, who returned the shots without effect. They then rushed Browne and illtreated him badly. The miners expressed their intention to take possession of the Lambton works every day until the Lambton miners agree to. the vend system. The Waratah Coal Company has looked out their miners, and are trying to obtain men from Adelaide Some have already arrived, but it is doubtful if they will he allowed to work. About 70 men of tho permanent artillery proceeded to Newcastle to assist the police. Parliament has been prorogued to Sept. 23. The proprietors of the Rerald promise £3000 as an endowment fund of Camden College. The Trickett and Laycock contest is creating great interest. Trickett has got a splendid now outrigger, 31ft long, and about 41b lighter than the imported boats. He commences to use the swivel rowlocks this week. Government are arranging to spend the bulk of the loan recently subscribed in the prosecution of public works.
