Wellington, August 26. \ At a large meeting of Temperance Societies; last night it was resolved— " That this meeting, bemg representative of the Temperance bodies of the city, is deeply convinced that there is ho effectual method of lessening tbe evils resulting from the use of intoxicating liquow 1 but to restrict the trade, and deems it to be the duty of all the members of these several iiodies to subordinate every other political question, and hereby pledges itself to vote only for those candidates who arc prepared to leek to amend the Bill of 1873 so as to make it workable, and also to oppose tho giving of any oomponsation to the trade." A ballot waa then taken to decide which two candidates the meeting should support, and the choico fell on Meaars Hunter and Levin. ■' MrW. Hutchison addressed the electors this ovening, there being a large attendance. Tho Candidate was well received, and at the close of tho meeting received an unanimous vote of confidence. No candidate in opposition to Mr Wakefield is yet mentioned. Oamabu, August 26. ; Sir Georgo Grey passed through Oamaru •to-day, en route for Palmorston, whore ho intends to address a meeting to-night. Mefsrs Hislop and Shrimsla addressed a meeting at Maheno last night, and received a vote of confidence ; and Mr Steward got a similar vote at Livingstone. Dunedin, August 26. The Premior will arrive in Dunedin early to-morrow, and will address a mass meeting in the ovonin;. Mr Thomas Diok, one of tho candidates for the city, addressed the electors last night. He strongly condemned tho Government policy and administration. Ho received a unanimous vote of confidence. iINVBBOABGILL, August 26.
