Refusal of Duiy.—Jamoß Boyce, a seaman on board to barquo Himalaya, n^ras charged nith this offence. Mr Joyce appeared in Bupport of tho cbarge. The chief offloer slated that on Monday night accused was told to put tho hatches on, when he refused to do it, telling tho witness to go to h . The Bench scut accusod to gaol for 14 days with hard labour, and ordered him to forfoit two 1 days' pay. j Absent without Lbavb. — Norman M'Leod, carpenter of the barquo Doohra, wa» charged with boing absent from the vessel without leave. Mr Joyco appeared for ihe complainant. Tho second officer deposed that accused had been ashore on three occasions without leave, the last time boing on Monday, when he was absont from noon till after 2 p.m. Ono hour—from noon to I—was1 —was hia dinner hour, and he exceeded his time by an hour. Mr Joyco said he was instruoted to press the charge, as the' seamen on board tha vessel had been in the habit of leaving ifc without leavo, and the captain wished tha accused mado an examplo of. The Bench ordered accused to be sent on board and forfeit two days' pay. Civil Cases.—Shaw v. Columbus, claim. £7 12s. Mr Nalder for plaintiff. This waa a claim for balance due for building a boat for defendant. The Bench gavo judgment for plaintiff, allowing defendant a month to p*y tho amount. Defendant to pay cost* and solicitor's fee.—Duff v. Ponny; claim, £1 Bs ; S'udgmont by default with costs.—Jerrard v. 'icrcy, claim £6 19s Gd. Mr Nalder,for defendant. Plaintiff having filed his declaration of insolvency, the Bonch non-Buited him with costs. .' v
