I Peopebtv Sale.— This mcrning Mr C. F. (Barker held a sale of the lease of Messrs JEtherington and Co.'s well known stables, ] with frontages to Gloucester streefc end I Market place. The goodwill of that portion known as the Rink stables, wifch four years to run, was knocked down to Mr F. W. Delemain for £230. The fivo years' lease of i the Market place stables, with stock and mail \confcracfc, waa next submitted, bufc the highest pffer obtained waa £800. Tbo reserve placed Upon thia portion waß £1200, and tho property was withdrawn. A numbor of the horses sold fetched prices ranging from £6 to £15. The well known brake horso Jack, changed owners afc £49. For a 27 acre farm afc Wakanui, ready ploughed for wheat, and on which only £100 cash was required, wifch the balance at long terms, one bid of £25 was all that could be elicited. r Electoiui. Rolls Objections. — Lasfc 'week the objections against fche rolls for fche Avon and Heathcote Ridings of the Selwyn County wero heard afc the Resident Magistrate's Court. On Monday the objections againßfc the doctoral rolls for tho Avon and Heathcoto districts will be held afc 10 o'clock, afc the City Council Chamber, beforo Mr E. J. Lee, and on Tuesday objections will bo takon at same place against the electoral roll for fcho cifcy of Obriatchurch.
Chbistchuecii Encuneeiis. — Yesterday the memberß of this corps intimated to the Government through tho officer commanding tho district, that whenever tho Government ask for their services they will be prepared to go to the front.
Sydenham Wesleyan Church. — The Rev W. Baumber will preach to-morrow morning, and in the evening the Roy J. S. Smalley will lecturo on "Revivals of Religion — Pasfc, Present, and Future."
Prbsbytebian Meeting at Kaiapoi. — On Thuraday laat a meeting was hold in the Preabyterian Church, Kaiapoi, for tho purpose of meeting a deputation from the Presbytery of Canterbury, consisting of tho Rovb Fraser, Eimslie, and Harier, who wore sent up to enquire into the circumstances of the chapter at Kaiapoi, and to ascertain if ifc could afford to maintain a pastor independently of tho Rangiora district. There wob a fair attendance, the' Rev 0. Fraser in the chair. After a long and careful consideration of the wholo matter, it was resolved — " That the district was not 'at present in a position to support a pastor independently." A cordial vote of thanks was passed to the deputation, and the usual vote of thanks terminated the proceedings. South Rakaia.— A meeting of tit Mark's Parish Church officers was held in the Road Board office oh Thursday last ; present— Roy W. H. Elton (in the chair), 0. A. 0. Hardy, E. -8. Coster/ W. Cox, C. S. Mackie, A. Makeig, W. B. Passmore, and H. Alington. Tto RevW. H. been provided for the oocasion, the prinoipal item being another of the colonial, author's dramas, new to Ohristohurch playgoers, entitled " The Struggle for Freedom." This is to be supplemented by a series of allegorical tableaux, of a national character, in which appropriate songs wiU be introduced. It is also announced that Mr Darrell will recite "The Charge of the Light Brigade." Accident. — A mail named Edward Ryan was received into the Hoßpital yeßterday, suffering from au injury to his right foot. He had been working at Lee's mill, Oxford, putting stringers into a tramway, when one of the heavy pieces of timber fell on his foot, crushing his righfc toe. He :was attended by Dr Reese before being brought to town.
h Cantbrbubx Rowing Club.— A Bpecial [general meeting of members of the Canterbury Rowing Club was held laat evening, at the Commercial Hotel, there being a very fair attendance of members. The report of the Site Committee waa brought up and considered, and waa unanimously adopted, the trustees being authorised to purchase the piece of land recommended by the Committee, on which to erect a boatshed, A Special Committee waß appointed to revise the rules, and to report thereon at the annual meeting. 'Ihe proceedings then terminated.
I The Boat Shbds.— ln view of the fact that the boat-shed occupied by the Canterpury Rowing Club has soon to be removed, fMr Nelson K. Cherrill haß produced an ad[mirablephotograpbiopicture of the boat-sheds, bo that members of the Olub may possess themselves of a. memento of their many gatherings at the river aide. The subject has jbeen artistically treated, and, regarded from p pictorial point of view, the photograph is a uesirable one.
A special meeting of the Bailway Employees' Society will be held in the Accountant's offioe on Thur.day, June 26, at 8 p.m.
