WELLINGTON, Jtjhb 13. Riverton ia proclaimed a Borough under fche Municipal Corporations Act, 1876. Thirty-three feefc of fche western side of Gaol street, Dunedin, have been closed as a thoroughfare; B Three acres thirty-eight poles block No. 5,7, fand two acres fcwo roods and six poles block No. 7, in Waipahi survey district, Otago, have been taken for fche purpose of a portion of fche railway from Amberley to the Bluff. I A warrant has been issued giving the WaiJmato Bailway Company permission to use Crown lands and public reserves vested in the Crown, and to construct the railway through suoh public reserves. Consent has also been given to that Company to borrow £69,000. . . Mr Frederick George Neville Bridges to be Examiner of Titles for Canterbury.
The services of the Urenui Mounted Rifles, Waverley Rifles, Ingle wood Ranger Rifles, and Normanby Kifles, have been accepted. The result of the examination of teachers is gazetted.
The Eev W. J. Habens, 8.A., and Professor John Francis Julius Von Haast, Phil. D.F.R.S., have been appointed fco bo Fellows of the University of New Zealand, vice His Honor Judge Prendergasfc, 8.A., and Hon R. Campbell, M.L.O , resigned. Convicted children of Hawkea' Bay, under the Neglected and Criminals Act, aro to be sent to the Burnham Reformatory. A supplementary Gazette notifies the resignation of Sir William Fitzherberfc for tho electoral district of Hutt,
