WELLINGTON.
June 13. Messrsßrandonand Hunter, M.H.R.'s.,have been nominated to acb for the Speaker .of the Houae, and have_cceptcd Sir W. Fitzherberfc's resignation, nnd declared tho seat for tho Hutt vacant. Mr H. Jackson is as yefc tlio only declared candidoto, and his address Tjill be published 'to-morrow. Ho 13 very little taken pereonally with tho Govornmenfc, on account; of hia dismissal ; bufc will, ifc is said, declare himself generally in, favour of liberal
principles. He is a resident at the Hutt, and will be powerfully supported ; but there is a strong feeling that he is only seeking election* to represent his own personal grievances, trod ' in the event of opposition this feeling will greatly _ endanger:.his7chance. Mr W. -A. Fitzherberfc, Sir William's son, was talked of, but he will support Mr Jaokson. It is by no means impoaaible that Dr BUUer, C.M.G., F.R.S., will contest the seat as.a .Government supporter, aril if he does; he will probably win. It is not likely that the Government will nominate Mr Hamlin as Chairman of Committees, as there would be a feeling against having Auckland members both as Speaker and. Chairman. Mr Thomas Kelly, Mr Bryce, Mr J. Evans Brown, and Mr Bunny are 'all mentioned as members on whom the choice of Ministers may posßibly fall.
