Mobb Detkstablb Concoctions. — The Southland Times is responsible for the following :— " Some days ago our reporter was informed of a most inexplicable circumstance said to have happened at Riverton. It seems that on Tuesday lost a small ketch called the Rambler . was lying off the Kiverton jetty, loading for Oropuki. Included in the goods taken on board wore several barrels of beer, bearing tho brand of a well-known firm of brewers. Through somo reason or another one of these casks burst, and in addition to the ale several cakoa of tobacco and.the entire entrails of some animal, of what kind does not appear to be thoroughly known, were expired to viow. Sovoral persons were on the wharf afc tho lime, and were fche beholders of tho circumstance. We have been givon to understand that tho matter has beou plaoed in tho, hands of the polioe authorities, and it is to be hoped for tho sske of all parties that the affair may be siftod to tho bottom. It is ouly bare justice to the firm whoße brand the barrel boro, to state that the beer did not oome from thoir establishment, and that they were considerably annoyed, and not a little disgusted, that a cask containing suoh con* ooctionsshould profess to emanate trom their' •brewery." .-i^.-^. .;.--"•.<■:
