KAIAPOI FIRE BRIGAD & ENTERTAINMENT.
Thjj^entortainment in aid of the funds of this flttgjgde took place at the Oddfellows' Hall, JSS^ipof, on Thursday last. The performers Were Mr J. P.^Htfftts and company, and the pieceß-'playe'djve're " Indoliable Ink " and " Box and Ook," under tho new title of
" Tho Troubles of a Printer." Botweon tho pieces, Mr R. W Smith, Superintendent of tho Brigade, came forward and thanked thoßO present for their attendance, at the same time expressing his regrot and surprise that there was not a larger audience. He stated that ho
thought the inhabitants of tho town might at any rate attend a performance which was given for such a laudable objecc as tho prosent one, and ho felt a good deal hurt at tho apathy shown, moro especially whon it was considered that tho Brigade was composed entiroly of unpaid men, and that getting up an entertainment was tho only way they had of augmenting tho funds of tho Brigade. (Applause.) The total receipts wero about £16, and tho expenses amounted to nearly £13, so that tho financial result is not vory satisfactory.
