Tho vital statistics of the registry district of Auckland for tho March quarter of tho present yeav are as follows : — Total births, b7l ; total deaths, 212 ; total marriages, 100, of these IC3 marriages 40 were solemnised in churches, 30 in dwelling-houses, and 30 in tho ofiico of the ragistrar. Thirty-three cases aro set down for hearing to-morrow in tho Resident Magistrate's Court.

Tho writ, issued against Mr Reos, M.H.R., at the suit of James M'Farlane, M.H.R., was trustee in the estate of tho late Captain Reid, was bent yesterday for service. The damages claimed are £10,000. At tho City Council Meoting Councillor Goldio called attention to tho large avreavs of rates, £650 now unpaid. He said that in Christchurch only £267 out of £3404, in Dunedin only £21 out of £1500 odd were now due, and that judgment has been^-ecorded against all defaulters. He had gone through the defaulters' list submitted, and it showed only £426 of arrears. He could not account for the discrepancy of £200 odd. A return was ordered to be submitted by next sitting.
