A meeting of tho Committee appointed to consider tho question of the erection of Municipal offices was hold yesterday afternoon at the Council Chamber ; present — His Worship tho Mayor (in the chair), Councillors Gapes, Wilson, and Biustead. Tho City Surveyor was also present. Tho Mayor said that a very strong impression seemed to prevail outside that tho site proposed by tho Committee on which it was intended to erect tho Municipal buildings was not tho most suitable that might bo obtained for this purpose, and many believed that tho Market Place could bo obtained from the Government for tho purposo of erecting a Town Hall and Municipal offices. Before taking any f urthor action, it might bo advisable, as the Uon tho Attorney-General, was at prosont in Christchurcb, to interview him.

Tho Coimnitteo also decided, boforo taking iinal action in tho matter, that they would bring tho question definitely boforo tho public by calling a meetiug of tho citizens. It may bo added that Mr E. C. J. Stovons, LI.H.R., as one of tho representatives for tho city, has consented to accompany the deputation which will wait upon tho Hon tho Attorney-General in this matter.
