FLOODS

I Our Rakaia correspondent telegraphed at 2.15 p.m. yesterday as follows : — lt has been raining heavily for the last 20 hours. The south line is damaged about half a mile south of Rakaia. The ballasting has been washed away for six chains, which was caused by the works of the Rakaia and Ashburton Forks railway damming back the storm water, which burst and swept away the South line. The traffic hus been stopped since the Dunedin train passed South this morning. Men were sent from Ashburton to repair, and expect to .have the traffice resumed to-night.
