Tnis Day. . (Before G.L. Mollish, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness. — Christina Clegg was fined 10s. — Samuel Neill, who on tho previous day had exhibited symptoms of lunacy from drink, was. discharged. Assault. — Sarah B. Doig was charged with having violently assaulted and beaten John Doig. Dr Foster appeared for the complainant. Tho wifo made a counter statement to the offect that she had boon beaton by complainant, and sho handed in a medical certificate in support of her assertion. His Worship thought the case was not altogether ■a one-sided affair, there appeared to bo faults on both sides. Dr ifostor suggested that a -separation would be advisable. His Worship ■ cautioned Mrs Doig that she could not do entirely as she liked; the only hope of quietude between the parties appearod to be in a separation. Dr Foster would advise his client to consent to any order for maintenance that might bo .made. Eventually his Worship decidod to llet the case stand over for a week to admit of -some settlement boing come to. Mrs Doig •must; in the meantimo clearly understand •that she was not to move any property away.
