ThoCatholic clergy have given £500 out of their Maintenance Fund for a now city school building. Dr Wood gives £100. To-day at tho Supremo Court, application was made for a Habeas Corpus in favour of Thomas Kennells, charged with tho murder of Captain Moller, at Bautaritari. After argument, Mr Justico Gillies ruled that the Court had no power, wader the " Foreign Offenders' Act, 1863," to issue any such wan-ant as that under ' which Kcnnell's was detained, and ordered a writ to issue, commanding tho gaoler to bring tho body of the prisoner into Court.
At a meeting of the Chamber of Commorco to-day, the probable stoj>pago of tho pump at tho Thames was taken into consideration, and a Committee appointed to obtain data upon the matter, to report at a special meeting ■as soon as possible. Mr Letley, accompanied by a Native guide, lias started to survey tho line of road from •the Lake district to Cambridge, recently (Passed ovor by Mr Moss, M.H.E.
