The Clerk stated that he had received £21 ' 6s 3d since the last meeting. COBBESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read : — Circulars were read from the Colonial Secretary re the management of Charitable Aid and Hospital. These circulars having already appeared in print, it is unnecessary to repeat them. ' From Mv H. Thompson, Chairman Charitable I Aid Board, stating that a conference of representatives from the various Counties and Municipal bodies would be held in Christchurch, on Friday, Jan. 10, to consider the [ letter received from Colonel Whitmore, ! dated Dec. 2, re charitable aid and hospital management. His Worship was requested to represent the Council at the Conference. From Messrs Bishop, Chriatchurch, offering to supply silicate paint at 60s per cwt. From Mr H. C. Jacobson, resigning Ms office as Auditor, consequent upon his leaving Ljttelton, and thanking the Council for the courtesy shown him during his term of office. The Mayor stated that it would not be necessary for an election to be held for the appointment of another Auditor until the general election of Auditors, as the Council could appoint one at any time before the annual election. From Messrs Garforth and Lee, requesting a renewal of the license for their slaughteryard at Corsair Bay. The Foreman of Works, to whom the matter had been referred on a previous occasion, handed in a report suggesting that the yards should be removed to either above the road in a bend of the gully or down to where the lime kilns are situated on the beach. On the motion of Councillor Cunningham, it was resolved—" That Messrs Garforth and Lee's license should be renewed for six months, and that they be informed that they must find a fresh site for their yards bv that time at a greater distance from the town." From Mr Jno. S. Willcox, forwarding copy of valuation list for town, and asking for return of amount of his deposit. The Clerk was instructed to return to Mr Willcox his deposit, and to take the necessary steps for making public the fact that the valuation list had been completed and could be inspected after Jan. 15. hesera'oibs. The Mayor reported that the Works Committee had not had the upper reservoir emptied, owing to the continued dry weather. Councillor Weyburn and himself had visited the reservoirs last week, and found the upper reservoir quite free of animalculoe and vegetable matter, the water being beautifully clear. The water in the lower reservoir was .also very clear, and there was but very little vegetable matter in it. Several samples of the water were laid before the Council, and witli one exception the water appeared to be very bright and free from insect life. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £169 Os 8d were passed i'oi?' payment. KO& REGISTRATION. Councillor Hawkins enquired what record was kept of dogs registered. The Clerk stated that all names were entered alphabetically of persons who had registered their dogs. LEAVE 01? ABSENCE. Leave of absence was accorded to Cour.ciiloi' Parsons. WATER SUPPLY. Councillor Cunningham, Chairman Water Supply Committee, reported that the foreman of works required some additional plant for laying water services. It was resolved that the plant be procured. RESIDENT MAGISTRATE. DIB.TY CHANNEL. Councillor Hawkins called the attention of the foreman of works to the bad state of the concrete channel in Dublin street. Councillor Cunningham, also spoke of the 1 nuisance arising from the fact of the slush carts gathering up rubbish during the day. The foreman stated that anyone he found offending in that way would be- summoned. The Council then adjourned.
