R. W. WALTEBS & CO., 3561 Undertakers, Victoria sU-eot. ENLARGEMENT or THE STAB. THE proprietors of the Stab, having in view the demands made upon its space for advertisements, the lavge increase in the number of its subscribers, and the great progress of the newspaper in every aspect, have for some time past been considering the des'vabiVfcy of permanently increasing its size, so as to allow the uninterrupted publication of all the information and reading matter which the public have a right to look for in the columns of a daily journal. Such a change, however, could not be effected hurriedly without considerable loss ; arrangements, therefore, have been in progress di'"ing the pa3t few months to carry out the alteration which this afternoon is completed. A thorough overliav 1 . of the plant; the erection of new machinery ; the securing of an ample supply of material ; arrangements in regard to the publication of more complete telegraphic news ; an increase of the staff to secure the fullest local information, have aH been requisite to enable the alteration to be carried out with advantage to the public and without unnecessary outlay. These difficulties having been successfully overcome, the Stab this evening appears >n the size which, up to tbis date, was assumed by the morning journals. The proxirietors are hopeful that the high character which the Star has attained as a domestic newspaper, •Ril 1 , by tins er^argenient, be more than maintained, whilst, as a commercial and advertising medium, it will develope new features. With the great facilities now afforded, there is every ground for confidence tbat the efforts about to be put forth to meet the growing demands of the reading and advertising public, will meet with appreciation and support. ENLARGEMENT OF THE LYTTELTON TIMES. ffIHE history of the Lyttelton -*- ■ Times is a curiously exact . counterpart of the history of the district it represents. CommeLcing from very small beginnings, the rapid and continuous growth of Canterbury can be traced almost exactly by the repeated enlargements of the Journal which owes its birth to the founders of the Province. As population and wealth grew in the district, the Lyttelton Times kept pace with that growth ; but the exceptionally rapid increase of settlement during the past two years has almost outpaced the efforts of the Proprietors. In spite of the last and greatest enlargement, want of space has repeatedly been pleaded as an excuse for the omission, curtailment, or postponement of important news, interesting reports, or valuable correspondence. To obviate this difficulty, and do justice to the wants of a public that has always liberally supported their Journal, the Proprietors intend from this day to permanently enlarge the Lyttellon Times by making it a daily eight-paged paper — the largest morning journal in New Zealand. By this means they hope to fully satisfyjthe requirements of their readers. By avoiding the objectionable feature of supplements, room will henceforth be found in the body of the paper for all the advertisements which may be entrusted to its widely - circulated columns.
