DEAR SIR, —Wo the undersigned i Burgesses of the City of Christchurch, fully (appreciating the thorongiily independent and business-like manner in which you have discharged the duties of the Mayoralty during the current year, hereby request that you will permit yourself to be nominated for the oflicefor the ensuing term, and pledge ourselves' heartily to support youv candidature. — Yours, &c, (Signed) • ! ANDREW PUNCAN, ; P. CUNNINGHAM,. A. W. BIOKERTON, J. P. MACPHERSON, * And 157 others. To Messrs A. Dhncan.'Pl'Cteninghan, A. W. .^ickerton, J. I). Macpherson, and 157 other . gentlemen signing tho requisition. GJOTLEJtEy,— I thank -you most heartily for the very influentially signed requisition this day placed in injr hands, asking me to allow myself to be nominated for the office of Mayor, and for the very complimentary terms you have been pleased 1 to use in re« f erring to the manner in wliick I have discharged the duties of the Mayoralty during the current year. ; It gives mc great pleasiire to accede to your request,. and I now place myself in the hands of my ;; fellow-citizens, as a candidate for reelection. During my term o£. oftlce -I found the duties of the Mayoralty, combineti with those of the Chairman .of tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, so onerous as- to require, for their proper discharge, very much more time than any one actively engaged in -business could possibly 9pare ; but lam now iv a position which will enable me to devote tho whole of my time, if necessary, to the requirements of the oftice, nnd on that account feel more confident in again soliciting the votC3 of the electors. It is quite true that I cannot; point to either lamp. or fountain' as a memorial of my zeal on behalf of the City interests ; yet I may fairly claim the greatest share of the credit in securing the 800-acres resen'e at the Sandhills, the revenue from wbieh in a few years will greatly lighton the burden of the ratepayers. The improvements in Cathedral.. Squaro as originally suggested by me have been carried out, and although opposed at first, are vow universally approved, I am quite alive to the absolute necessity for securing an ample and permanent supply of water for the city, and am prepared to devote both time and energy to th© attainment of that object. Tho erection of new municipal offices and Town Hall is also a necessity, and will have my best support. With the past year's oxperienco of tho duties of the o/lice, and encouraged by the flattering terms in which you have referred to my discharge of them, I hope,, should you do me the honour of re-electing i»e, to be able still more efficiently to fill the position of your chief Magistrate, and having ho private interests to serve, will continue in tho future, as I always have done in the past, to devote my best energies to the advancement of our prosperous and rising city, and the consorvation oil the interests of the mtepayevs. I have the honour to be, Gentlemen, . Your obedient servant . H. THOMSON. HYDEOPATffY. SMEDLEY'S MILD WATER CURE. BY the request of a large circle of friends, Mr S.
