Drunkenness.— A first offender,' who- had been arrosted at tho railway station, was fined ■-.■*•, 58 and cost of cab, 2s. : , - VAOBANOr. — Minnie Bench, alias Edwards, alias Thompson, Annie Osborne, and Eichard Palmer were charged with being thd ocOupiors of a house frequented by thieves ' and ptirsoiis having no lawful visible means of support. Constable Brooks deposed thutoh the previous 1 1 evening he arrested the accused in a brothel itt Fifth street, Waltham, where , they wero making a disturbance. Bench was; the .wife . of the man who was convicted" on Monday. Numerous complaints had been made respect- -•■• ing the house. Detective Waker stated what he knew about the parties, aikl corrbborativo i l . evidence was given by residents iii the neigh- .' bourhood in questien. In reply to his Wor- ' ship, the male prisoner, eaid _ on the last occa- ; sion he worked he was engaged for nine weeks. Against Osborne 35; previous whvictibng f were proved, and' 23 against Benoh;. JSannan was, charged witli. - having, on Sept. 2, assaulted Matthew Roach. > No appearance.— -Frederick Harris was charged . ' with having, on Sept. 6, at Waltiiam, assaiultcd ; Samuel Biggam. No appetmince. -— Henry Atkins was charged ..with having, on Sept. 3,- in the neighbourhood of '.Colombo s istreet ■,''= bridgo, assaulted Wnii ,'J?. ; Mr Z Loughnan appeared for tte ' complainaht, whose evidence . was to the effect that he was under sureties to keep, the pc'iice towards accused, and that on the date named accused pushed him on the 'arfcV.aftd., charged him with •'■' not having paid certain Court fees; Complainant's wife liaving giving ; corroborative evidence^ Mr Loughnan commented uponthe V.' ease, urging that this, man cbhld not Jae permitted by, any annoyances to provoke a breach of the peace. His Worship concurred in this view, and ordered accused tb pay costs of tho case, 6s 6d. Wilful Damage. '•— ■ Edmund Beckett, Tuam street, was charged with, haying, on Sepfc 2, wilfully broken' and damaged a certain fence, the property of Henry Eckhof., Complainant said accused cut .do wn-r-wghfc. to. the ground—a quick fence which existed between the two sections.
