CHEVIOT ELECTION.

THE NOMINATION. At the nomination of a representative for the Cheviot Electoral District yesterday Mr Ingles was proposed by Captain Davidson and seconded by Captain Keene. ! Mr Saunders was proposed by 'Mr Walter Q-ibson and seconded by Mr H. W. Parsons. Mr Ingles, in his address to the electors, explained his views on the income tax, which is the cardinal point- in, his policy. He also enumerated his past services to the Kaikoura district and ; the numerous benefits he had conferred on the inhabitants while he was a member of the Provincial Government of Marlborough. Mr Saunders was not present. On a show of hands being called for eight hands were held up for Mr Ingles and eighteen hands for Mr Saunders. A vote of thanks to the returning officer terminated the proceedings.
