Wednesday, August 30. After some formal business, Tho Hon Dr Pollbn mado a short statement a» to Bir J. Vogel's retirement. Nothing definite has been settled as to the formation of the now Ministry. Mr Whitakw was communicated with to-day, aad had an interview with Major Atkinson, but without aay •mogMMot bwnf oomo to. He if now,
however, again with Major Atkinson. A largo seotion of the Auckland mombers are vory anxious that he should join, and if an agreement oan be oome to on fcho land question he will probably do so. Mr Reid has also boon communioated with, but is said to bo now unwilling fco join, the other Ofcago mombers pressing him not to doso. Mrßallanoo.thehon J. HaU, and Mr Stevens, aro also vaguely mentioned as possiblo Ministers. Mr Rolleston iB said to bo trying to form a third and intermediate parly in tho Houso. Whatever tho composition of fcho Ministry may bo, its strength will at onoe bo triod by a direct voto of Want of Oonfidonoo. Sir Julius Vogol will retain his seat in tho Houso till the end of the Session. Thero is, both in tho House and out of ifc, a very gonoral feeling of dissatisfaofcion afc fcho announcement of last nighfc and fche courso he has taken. Mr Androw, last night, eaid ho had shown neglect of the Oolony, ond had forfeited tho publio esteem by his aotion. A strong effort will certainly bo made to prevent his appointment. as Agent-General, bufc ifc is nofc likoly to sucooed. His own frionds regret; what has beon dono, howovor, and the Govornmonfc supporters complain of not having beon oon* suited, or givon tho slightest hinb of how things wero going.
