Reoently published otatisfcios show that the total number of lives Raved from shipwreoks throughout the United Kingdom since 1856-7, and inolusivo of that yoar— a period of nineteen years— is 75,221. In 1874-6, 502 lives were saved from shipwrook by means of lifeboats, 855 by rocket and mortar apparatus, fill by luggers, coastguard, ami other small cr&£b,4>4d by ships and steamboats, 1644 by ships' own boats, 6 by individual oxertions, ana 379 by other means ; making a total of 8837. Thero are now 192 stations in England and Wales, 89 in Sootlanrl, 50 in Ireland, 2 in Heligoland ( and 4 in tho Isle of Man, supplied with rocket or mortar apparatus ; and 200 in England and Wales, 84 in Scotland, 31 in Ireland, and 4 in tho Isle of Man, supplied with lifeboats.
