ST. JOHN'S ASSOCIATION.

An entertainment to inaugurate the establishment of the above Association was held last evening at St John's Sohoolroom, Hereford street. The Association has just been formed, and is due to the interest taken in the movement by the Rev Mr Watson, Incumbent of the parish. The objeot was tbe establishment of a reading-room, and of various classes for the benefit of tbe youth and young men of fche Distriot, and in faot tha bringing into operation in this Distriot of a local literary institute. Several meetings have been held, and the efforts of Mr Watson have been successful, for a large number of young men have enrolled themselves as members, and the result cannot but be of a beneficial and satisfactory character. Prior to the concert of last evening, tbe members met together in the sohoolroom, and formally opened the Association. The enterteinment wbioh followed was of a highly enjoyable character, and the room, whioh was tastefully decorated for the occasion, was crowded. The entertainment consisted of vooal and instrumental music, and a couple of interesting readings. Mrs Palmer was most successful in her vocal efforts, and also in hor pianoforte seleotion. Mr Neville Barnett, who was to have presided at the piano, was unfortunately unable to be present, but his brother, Mr J. Barnett, did good service, and sang two songs in capital stylo. The other gentlemen who gave their services, and who contributed materially to the success of the entertainment were, the Roy T. Watson, Messrs Hull, M'Dougall, Hobbs, and Knox. Tho entire concert; was highly successful, sua the members of tho yonng association are to bo complimented upon the spirit with which (hoy have banded themselves together for a good and laudable object.
