Lyblii's Bat, Jan. 11, 7 p.m. After the Tui left tho Luna yestorday, several attempts were mado to again pick up the cable, but thoy failed owing to the wind and tide being so strong. Broke a prong off one grapnell, and straightened out the othor prongs. The wind freshened, and the sea rose, so that it was impossible to do anything. Put baok to Otiringa. The wind was strong all night, tho weather looking a little bottor at noon. The Luna went out for another try, but it was quito impossible to work. Turned about and oame tn Lyell's Bay, so as to bo ablo to telegraph to town for anything wanted, as provisions and water wero gotting short. If the weather is not more favourable to-morrow she will probably return to Wellington, and tako in provisions, coal, and water before making another start, The Luna will go out again to-morrow morning at three o'olook if tbo weather is fine, so as to be on the ground early. Wblmhoton, Jan. 11. There are no news from tbo Luna to-day. The Tui, when orossing the Straits this morn* ing with tho Southern telegrams, oould see nothing of her. Sho must have gone into shelter. Captain Kennedy, of the Easby, just arrived front tho South, reports that it is blowing hard, and tho soa Is too rough to grapplo for tho cable. A sohool of twenty-six porpoises wero washed ashoro at Lyell's Bay this morning. They are now high and dry on tho beach. The Manawatu eleotion has resulted as follows i— Johnston, 191 • Buller, 164. The oontest t was very oloso. The Distriot gave Buller a small majority, but thirty votes irom Wellington 1 swamped him. Gbahamstown, Jan 10. Tho ofiloial declaration of the poll took plaoe to-day, Sir, Georgo Grey and William Rowo being deolared eleoted. Major Keddell, Returning Offloor, said that protests had been lodged against Sir G.
